Go on...I dare you...

I am a long-time fan of the Kinsey Millhone books, authored by Sue Grafton. One of Kinsey's favorite quick meals is a peanut butter and pickle sandwich. Each time I read of her sampling one, I shudder.

For some reason, however, today, I decided to try one. I took these shots before I went the extra step of grilling this. It was surprisingly tasty!

So...I challenge you to try this. Post back if you sample this little tasty treat. I used smooth peanut butter and kosher dill slices, but I imagine bread & butter pickles would be just as good.

  1. Val, you have discovered a favorite snack of mine since I was little. I was so excited when Ms Grafton wrote that Kinsey liked them too since I had not heard of anyone else eating peanut butter and pickle sandwiches (only dill please!) I put a thin layer of the peanut butter on each slice of bread and the pickle in the middle. It keeps the bread from getting soggy! BTW, your photo is great!

  2. Sounds interesting! Since I love PB and I also love dill pickles, I might just have to try this...your picture makes it a bit tempting!

  3. It sounds just weird enough to maybe be tasty. I'll have to try it someday.

  4. Sorry - not tempted - but it is a nice photo. I haven't read Sue Grafton in a while - you may have inspired me to go back and read some more.

  5. I'll leave that dare untouched, thank you. Although I do hope BillZ sees this food shot. It rivals some of the unusual one he posts!

  6. Umm - think I'll pass even though you shot this so well. What does V.I. Warshawski(sp?) eat?

  9. Well that's a new one for me. I'd never heard of that before, but went ahead, grabbed the Vlassic baby dills, Adams creamy PB and a heel slice of multi-seed bread. It was pretty darn good! I had mine toasted rather than grilled. Great photo Val, and thanks for the tip.

    Yes, I took a photo.
