Zoom zoom

A line of Harley Davidsons, parked at a hotel in Colorado, await their riders.

The camera data on this puzzles me a bit: 1/40, f/8, 109mm, ISO 800. This was fairly early in the morning, on the shady side of the building, thus the high ISO. For the depth of field in this image, I would have expected a lower aperture #. Must be the longer focal length? I don't recall what mode I shot this, so I can't claim credit for the exposure. Probably Tv?

  1. You have me singing the mazda song now (you need an extra "zoom")! :) I love the clean line in this and how it creates depth!

  2. I would have expected some 'in your eye' color on these macho machines! Amazing how the softer hues catch the eye just as well....

  3. They are so clean! I have a bad grasp of how focal length and aperture combine, I guess that makes the extra zoom though.

  4. Can't help with your settings but if you were aiming for a nice, shallow DOF, you nailed it. It's perfect the way the focus falls off from the first bike....

  8. I think the DOF can be explained by a few things. The longer focal length plays into it but also your distance from the image in the foreground. I recall one of the tips from the DOF Mini Assignment said that you can zoom with the lens or zoom with your feet. I think your combination here is what affected the DOF. I like the repetition of the forms in this shot too.
