In Yosemite, you are prohibited by law from leaving food, coolers, or other scented items (including toothpaste, or Chapstick) in your cars at hiking trailheads...they attract bears. If you've brought those items with you, they must be left in these bear-proof boxes. Every campsite also had them, for storage in camp.
Can't say I have ever seen one of these - do the bears come around these often??
ReplyDeleteLove the perspective here! Those yellow labels lead your eye right to the end. I'd never heard of them either.
ReplyDeleteYogi don't need no temptin!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness! As hot as it is in CA, anything, like chap stick, put in there would be superheated and melted by the time you returned. Any food, unless it was kept on ice, and then that might melt, would be inedible after only a couple of hours in one of those. he wisest thing would not to bring anything at all! Nice photo, though. And great lesson.
ReplyDeleteGreat perspective and great crop.
ReplyDeleteI'd be lost without my chapstick - I guess I'd better stay off the trails unless the original plain stuff is OK. Great shot and very informative.
