Mini assignment: Self portrait

The first image was shot in the reflection of a hubcap at the Chicago Auto Show. The second, where I spend a lot of time...my home office. I then used a sketch tutorial from the book Photoshop Photo Effects Cookbook, by Tim Shelbourne.

I'm a college teacher (business computer applications, web design & now Photoshop) who loves photography, hiking, travel, downhill skiing and messing around with software! This is year 2 of my photo blog and I love learning more about my fellow bloggers, their areas of the world, and photography.

  6. So cool to put that well-known name and pretty face together! I don't see how you have time to do all that you do. I especially love the photo taken in the hubcap!

  7. Val, Great shots! So your from or near the "Windy City". Both shots are really cool. Now we got a pretty face to go with the name. And your first one doesn't make you look like a hub cap:)

  9. Love the hub cap image. Very well done. I have this vision of you crouched down taking this pic and then standing up to find a whole circle of people looking at you!!

Your sketch is beautifully done. Great effect.

  10. That's one shiny hubcap to give you a reflection like that! What a nice way to satisfy the assignment. I like the sketch treatment too - very creative solution.

  14. Seems it has all been said, Val. But I'll just vote on all of the above. Lovely photo(s) of you. It is always interesting to see what a person on the "other end" looks like. I think we all have envisioned the person by what they say and post. Pleasant surprises are always good. As Julie said: I thought you were a duck! :D

  16. It's nice to "meet" you--I really like the sketch effect: it looks just like a pencil drawing.
