Something about me
During my formative years, (1st-7th grades), I lived in Chicago, about 4 miles from downtown. I loved living there - we had beaches a block away, miles and miles of bike trails, woods in the many parks, a free zoo with horses (!) to visit, cheap transportation via bus or train downtown (things were different back then; my 10 year old self and friends were allowed to bus downtown without the parents), and friends from all walks of life. Today, we live about 75 miles away and get into the city several times a year for the theater, or just to wander around the lakefront, downtown, or museums.

Love the autumn city scape of Chicago.
ReplyDeleteHi Val,
ReplyDeleteAwesome picture! I've always wanted to visit Chicago. Have a great day!

I too feel that the youth of today, inspite of all the electronic gizmos, have the rough end of the stick. We had so much freedom to get into our own trouble with little more risk than a broken arm or leg. Ah the Bad old days, ya gotta miss em.
ReplyDeleteSounds like your childhood memories were full of freedom and excitement, there seems to be more dangers for children these days, no matter how street savvy they think they are.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful river shot! We have to go to the river house museum someday.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember when we were allowed to take the train downtown alone, Union Station area got pretty scary there for a while.
I love this shot! Chicago is just so illuminated over the river! Interesting read too, Val.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful view of the city! My birthplace and home (on Hazel Street) until I was 6. I remember bits and pieces of it and love to hear my parents talk of their time there. It was quite a different place in the fifties, I think. We visited every couple years or so.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful cityscape. A great autumn picture.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful image, Val. It's like the city is calling you with its glow. I really love this....
ReplyDeleteThat's an amazing portrait of Chicago. Make it look like a city of dreams. Reminds me of Carly Simon's song, "Let the River Run."
