anything that enters the home, whether I made it or not, as long as I put it on one of my own plates = homemade. That's my rule, and I'm sticking to it.
My theory is why reinvent the wheel when one can buy these wonderfully tasting brownie mixes so cheaply. Time is valuable and if you don't tell, most people would never know the difference! Gisele's comment is so true about putting it on your own pretty plate.
