Thanks, CCC boys!

If you've followed this blog for any length of time, you know that Jon and I are huge National Park Service fans. Those parks, and many others across our country, have trail systems and shelters that date back to the Great Depression in the 1930s, when young men of the Civilian Conservation Corps undertook trail development and maintenance across the country. This statue, in Gooseberry Falls State Park in Minnesota, pays tribute to these good, hard workers.

  2. We're Parkies, too. John turned 62 this year, so next time we're at one of the Parks, he can get his Golden Age Pass--I think it's $10 and it's good for life! I've found the CCC projects to be amazing--still so well designed and well made.

  4. Imagine coming out of an economic downturn by spending money putting people back to work improving a crumbling infrastructure. It's genius, and something we could do right now ... oh, wait ... NO TAXES! NOT NOW, NOT NEVER! Pass the tea.

    (Sorry about the rant Val.)

  7. Yes, thanks to the CCC! Let us do something equally remarkable and re-construct some of this crumbling country so the next generation can be amazed too!

  8. The CCC was a great program, one that gave us so many things appreciated today. We could easily do another one if it wasn't for the political infighting.
