From the (sea?) water...

One of the cool things about Summit County CO is its high lake, Lake Dillon. Two marinas vie for title of highest marina in the US. The Frisco marina is just a few short blocks from my friend's condo. There were several dozen sailboats and pontoon boats buttoned up for winter and stored on shore. I loved the incongruity of a sailboat at the base of these incredible mountains. I played with a lot of angles, but I enjoyed seeing Peak One through the metal prow, and the flare from the early morning sun sold me on this choice of photos to post.

  7. Way to see! This is such a great juxtaposition and it's well shot too! (as a crossword puzzler I'm disappointed you didn't use the tarn any where:-))

  9. Ellen...good one! This lake is about 3000 acres...not sure if it qualifies! LOL. However, about 12 miles south is a small, named tarn, Goose Pasture Tarn, and it is featured in a song by Jim Saelstrom called "Blue River Dreaming" (the Blue is one of 5 rivers that feeds Lake Dillon).

  11. I like the perspective. Have you tried cropping out some sky?

  12. Boomer - haven't tried cropping out the sky (love that gorgeous Colorado blue!) but I think it would shift the focus to the mountain/prow combination. Interesting suggestion.
