Who's there? People on the other side of the doors of this old jail would have to wonder who was coming to visit! The jail, preserved from 1800s mining days, is now part of a natural museum park in Frisco, Colorado. The white "No Smoking" sign on the door is a reminder of the 21st century. I decided not to Photoshop it out.
What a neat building. I love the patina on the wood.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful building (but I am partial to old wood barns). Your perspective is great and the texture stands out with the shie on those doors
ReplyDeleteLove the texture and grain of the wod. Great shot.
ReplyDeleteNot exactly maximum security, is it? Great shot, Val....
ReplyDeleteLove the ruggedness of this - great, great image!!!
ReplyDeleteI echo the comments above but I need you to go back and ask about the DOORS. It looks like a barn but can't be, both of those double doors swing out and are hinged in the MIDDLE. This leaves you with four conventional Doorways - Strange for a barn - Unless the whole door structure is removeable then it is no longer a barn. As I said I love everything about this photo but more than that, I appreciate the exercise you have given my rusty old Grey Matter, it needs all it can get, Thanks for an intriguing pic, email me when you have done the sleuthing for me LOL.
ReplyDeleteNice color and texture. I like the criss-cross X's on the windows.
ReplyDeleteIt sure doesn't look to be real secure, can you look inside?
ReplyDeleteGreat lines and texture. Glad you were on the outside!!
ReplyDeleteHi, everyone. I seem to recall (but looking at the structure belies my memory) that the doors slid to the side (stacked). Ellen, I've been inside...the cells resemble horse stalls in size, but are barred from halfway up to the ceiling (the rest is wood). I was on the grounds after hours, so the doors were closed. In actuality, I'd never even noticed these cool doors before because I'd only been here when the jail was open...I recall just walking in through a broad opening.
ReplyDeleteNext time someone's in Frisco CO, go look and tell us, will you? :-D
Those are really cool doors. Wonderful shot!
ReplyDeleteThe walking tour guide to the entire historic park is online. Here's the blurb about the jail:
ReplyDeleteFrisco Jail* circa 1881 Original
Owner: Town of Frisco
Frisco’s first and only jail featured four 7x10 foot jail cells and was moved to the park in 1983 from the east side of Fifth Avenue,
a half block off Main Street. The jail was built by J. Scott & William Myers, who used square nail construction and recycled
wagon wheels to hand-forge door and window hardware.

This is such a great shot! Love the angle you shot it at and love your processing and the textures in the wood. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOh! I love this shot! Great angle and beautiful texture!
ReplyDeleteThe wood looks like the wood beams that lined the basement of the house I grew up in. The beams came from an old barn. Or...maybe it was an old jail and I never knew!!
