My great-niece Mila is having a much different childhood experience than did I, or her grandfather (my brother). For us, Mom or Dad had to turn on the TV and find the channel. Mila just sets up the iPad and tunes into a Netflix video of an educational program teaching letters, numbers and colors.

ReplyDeleteI hear some schools are emphasizing keyboard instruction while de-emphasizing cursive writing, which I think is a shame. I'm not a big fan of phonetic spelling and acronyms. I like to see complete sentences and not texting! Btw I'm Lol!

ReplyDeleteI heard the same thing as Steven. Sad....there should be room for both, but typing is definitely needed. I taught myself as an adult out of a book "bat bat bat, cat cat cat, sat sat sat". Oy.

ReplyDeleteEverything that they think is fun needs to be plugged in somewhere, achieving a healthy balance with this and physical activity is the challenge.
