Barren

Spring has yet to...well....spring in northern Illinois. These barren trees stand in sharp relief against a late-afternoon sky.

  1. That's beautiful, Val. To a Massachusetts native, Illinois looked really flat and barren to me when I first visited my husband's sister in Springfield, IL. Now I love it and see such beauty in the prairie lands in any season.

  2. It's beautiful, Val. And there is no snow so spring is there!

My friend lives in McHenry and she took me to a wonderful nature preserve years back. Wood planked walkways through wetlands and prairie scenes very reminiscent to this.

  4. Gorgeous photo of this in-between time. I love the warm light on the grasses and the way you included so much of the sky above the treetops. A framer, I think!

  7. Spring in Northern Illinois looks better than here in North East Wisconsin . . . we still have a foot of snow and it is the last week of March. The barren trees will be full of leaves very soon . . . I love the stark feel of the trees against the blue sky.

  12. Just a few bare trees standing alone in a field, with clouds gathering in the distance makes a very nice picture.

  13. There's a crisp simplicity to this photo (along with perfect composition) that really engages the eye.

  14. A beautiful picture. I love the way the land sort of melts into the sky. I, too, am not use to such flat land.

  15. Not barren for long though. The warm tones of the grasses will make way for vibrant green soon enough. This is so well composed, I love that you put the horizon so low.

  16. Hi--am enjoying your blog. Am so far behind that I won't comment on each photo but want you to know that I especially like this one for its composition and the feeling of serenity really rather than barreness. Also liked the Loveland Pass post as it brought back memories of trips to that area. And the Caution-Natural Alpine Environment was one of those almost "duh, this is redundant" type signs that occur in so many seemingly obvious situations.
