Freeze Frame

Felt like Julie tonight...went to a hockey game. :-D  To celebrate his birthday, a good friend bought a set of seats to our local hockey team home game. Fun reason to play with my new camera! Borrowing a theme from last year's 365 challenge, I managed to stop the action as one player skates up to his teammates after a fine play.

I was switching between Sports mode and Manual. If I were to guess, this one was in Sports mode, because it was a .jpg file, not RAW.

Shutter: 1/30, f/6.3, ISO 800, 270mm

    I like the blur, it looks like the images in the sports magazines. Great job.

    Wonderful Val, love the crisp details in the hockey player against that wonderful motion blur - it makes the excitement he is feeling that much more evident!

    Caught him a treat, and you must have panned like a pro to get that blur on the stationary players, no ice down here so don't have these matches but this is great.

    WOW!!! I'd sure like to catch the action like that (especially since I'm spending another weekend in the rinks!). Did Ron get it right about panning?

    Yes, nice blur to the background as you focused in on the single player. You've really captured the motion.

    Yes,Julie and Ron...I was panning along with this player as he glided over to his team. I have a bunch of other, blurrier, shots of this same player... :-P Got lucky on this one!

    This is wonderful, Val. It looks like a magazine picture. The player is perfectly sharp and the blur is so nice.

    Well done! Not only the panning to keep him in such fine focus but I don't imagine the lighting was ideal either
