A place to be meditative

Inside the Chapel at Mission San Xavier Del Bac, Tucson. It was quite dim inside; I cranked my ISO setting as high as it would go. The amount of detail in the altar is amazing. For a larger picture and some history, you can read here. When we walked through the door posted earlier in this blog, this is the view that greeted us.

Shutter: 1/30, f/3.5 (as wide as I have!), ISO 1600, focal length 25mm, handheld

This lost some sharpness when I did a Save for the Web. The image is straightened a little, and corrected somewhat for color cast. No other edits.

  1. Perfect on content, and as ornate as all get out. So much going on!

  2. There are so many details -- I would find it hard to pick a place to focus because I'd want it all. You did a nice job capturing this. I could just sit and look and look and look! I think you definitely found a great place to meditate.

  6. Amazing detail in the carvings. The decorations for Christmas add a nice amount of color.

  7. Like Madelaine, I think I'd find so much detail to be distracting, but I bet when you were there it had a sense of serenity that overcame the business. Good job handling that low light.

  8. The Elephant Cave on Bali has this ornateness, but it is a good place to conyrmplate one's navel.

  9. I'd be distracted for sure, something or some saint for every body! This is a fine shot in tricky light.
